Once again we crossed the border at night. We got to Mestre quite late and parked the van near the tramway rails. We ate and slept there waiting for the morning to go to Venice.
The night was very cold, when we woke up everything was wight. A thick mist was freezing everything. We got to Venice and the city was in the fog. We started walking in the small street of Venice hoping that the fog will go away but it stayed like that all day long. In a way it was nice because we saw an other Venice that the one we usually see on the post card.
The atmosphere was a bit mystical. We walked around, saw some of the nicest building of the city. It was great to visit Venice, maybe because it is one of these city that we already have images of it in our brain. We were also surprised to see, a Sunday morning, that many Santa Claus running everywhere until we understood that it was a race.
We then went to look for a house to analyze. After talking with some people in the streets we thought it would be better to go in the district where most Venetian live. What we didn’t know before to arrive there is that to population decrease from year to year. Nowadays it is quite hard to find locals. And as the other touristic places where we’ve been, the locals are quite fed up with tourist. We saw interesting houses, and would have been very happy to analyze one but nobody welcomed us.
We finally spend the day walking, admiring this city and came back to the van.
